Hello jhood, Sorry for the duplicate msg, but was not sure if first one went through because of being a new member to forum. Thanks for the great detailed write-up on the install. I followed it closely, and every thing really seemed to work just rite. However when I went to run the program I get an error msg. 'unable to connect to VIM' I got the XHorse utility to recognize the VIM, and the program to start, but when connect to vehicle is selected the error msg pops up. I guess I suspect I did not do something correct with the registry hack??? Again thanks, and if you have any ideas that would be great.
User 2: I'm in the same boat. Mini VCI with firmware 1.4.1, and Techstream 12.20.024. I can connect to the car, and see all the TPMS data, but there's no blue Utility button to enter new TPMS IDs.
Click “Device Info”. You should see the “device connected” screen like this: If you see this, it means your MINI VCI is up and running under Windows x64 and can be used by other programs, such as Techstream.
But when I connect connect it still doesn't work. This is on a Windows 8.1 64-bit laptop with a cable bought off Amazon. Ok, I got it so that it connects now fine and I can get real-time and sensor data.
Go ahead and use it but on a laptop that is disposable and you do zero personal or private work with source: this is what I do for a living (everything and anything in the CISSP). Would someone PLEASE post some GOOD step by step instructions on how to install the techstream software on windows 10 64. Ive tried 15 different tutorials on windows 10 and XP and have yet to complete the installation. I could get to the connect vehicle step, but it then prompts me that there is a new version of techstream and i am FORCED to install. The version I got with my cable is 10.30.029, but the message says this is out of date as of March 2016. The tutorial i followed was: but again, I cant connect to my vehicle because it forces me to install the latest version. Of course clicking on Install takes you to the official TIS site and asks for user passwords.
Fast forward to yesterday - I'm helping a friend troubleshoot some issues on his 2006 Tundra, and I really wanted it working. I did some searching hoping someone had come out with a solution or newer driver installer, and this is what I found. Needless to say, I updated my Kaspersky and backed up all my info before beginning.
Put the files into a directory of your choice. VMWare player supports something called unity mode on windows. This allows you to simply drag and drop files between the host and guess OS as it presents each running app as a simple window. So you can uncompress all the files are your host OS. The missing 'Utility' and 'Customize' buttons were there, and I was able to register the IDs for the TPMS sensors for my winter tires. I could see the new IDs, and it was picking up the pressure and temperature from them, so that all seemed to work. I also browsed through the Customize options. Just in case it makes a difference to someone: after I uninstalled v12.20.024, I also deleted the Techstream directory in Program Files. This is for anyone that is currently trying to use Techstream software to change dealer settings on their BRZ/FRS with a MINI-VCI cable and software. I know there are a few threads out there already on the subject, but they don't contain any useful guides on how to actually succeed in activating and using this software, it's mostly just download links. I got stuck doing Google searches for about 2 hours trying to figure out if this could be done on a Windows 64-bit computer without the use of annoying Dual Boot or Virtual Machines on XP, and despite what most of these threads say, IT CAN BE DONE! The software works on any OS, but the drivers are the problem so instead they just have to be downloaded manually.
• 4 cd did not work Posted by Unknown on 8th Mar 2017 the cd that came with the mini vci did not work it was empty • 4 Works as advertised Posted by Michael on 15th Aug 2016 Cable worked as expected, no problems. My anti-virus software reported that the Techstream software had a Trojan virus and would not allow it to load. Hopefully it's a false positive. Loaded the software on an older laptop with antivirus disabled and it ran fine. Having access to these options is great!

User 3: I loaded Techstream 12.00.127 and USB drivers, and I can read ECU's all day, but I can't edit the settings/not able to customize. In pictures and videos I watched there is a customize button, but that area is blank on mine. Any help is appreciated. Customer Solution: Success! I tried v12.10.019 and it worked!
My cable arrived several days ago, as user manual suggestion MINI VCI is supposed to work it with Windows XP, but to contrary the popular belief, I get it working under Windows 64-bit and would like to share the instructions, I hope it will save someone a headache of dealing with dual boot and virtual machines with Windows XP. Package: MINI VCI cable for TOYOTA TIS Techstream, I‘ve bought mine from OBDTool.co.uk for around €24.00. The cable is about 4’ long, with a box and “MINI-VCI J2534 Standard OBDII Communication Interface” sticker. The cable comes with a mini CD with drivers and Toyota Techstream software; it is advertised as “Newest V8.30.023”. The “newest” refers to the version of bundled Techstream, rather than the cable firmware. My Windows 64-bit Computer: A laptop running 64-bit version of Windows 7/8. Mine is actually Windows 8 x64, but for Windows 7 the configuration procedure should be identical.
Download the 'Toyota Techstream Installation Manual - Windows 10.pdf Toyota Techstream Installation Manual - Windows 10.pdf ' from the link, it's an illustrated step-by-step instruction manual that is flawless except for the file name in step 16 - that should read 'Toyota Techstream 10.30.029.exe'. I downloaded all the files except the russian?? Installation manual at the bottom and burned them to a disc for future use if needed, and printed the 17 page installation manual so I could follow step-by-step. It worked perfectly, about 45 min later I had techstream connected to my truck and working fine.
I have also followed the instructions to the T and was able to finally connect the vehicle to the laptop using the mini cable and software. The issue I have is when I go to program the smart key for my vehicle I get an error message: This is on the selection screen after you connect the vehicle and select your make and model of the car, and then select 'Smart Access' to program a smart key. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? I am trying to program a backup smart key for my Lexus IS250 2007. Quick note on techstream 10.x with windows 7 or greater x64 with the 1.4.1 (and possibly the 2.0.1) Mini VCI cable.
